How do T4A Destinations work?
T4A Destinations are owner-bound, i.e. these have an owner from within the T4A community. The policy is simple: "No owner = No destination".

These Destinations must provide specialized INFORMATION on specific places, i.e. they are destination-bound and must address all relevant travel issues, e.g. safety, visas, fuel, accommodation, roads, environment, etc. The information is to be placed in a document which is continually updated as information changes.

Providing a set of simple quality standards are adhered to, these Destinations documents can be hosted on the T4A web server. In its simplest form a Destination document will consist of:
  • PDF or MS Word document (with hyper links to the items below, other documents, internet sites, etc.) which must be updated regularly and which must tell the full story for that destination.
  • Special GPS map (extraction from T4A GPS Maps) covering the area.
  • Suggested routes (in mapsource .gdb format) for possible trips to that area.
  • Paper map(s) to download if available.
  • Contact details of the owner.
  • Information can be combined with a Google Earth interface, T4A wikis and so on.
  • The owner will be responsible for keeping the Destination document up to date and for uploading updated versions on the T4A web server.

Examples of possible T4A Destinations are: "Zambia destinations by road and off-road" by Robbie Becker; "Traveling Swaziland" by Rex Brown; "The Eco-routes of the Klein Karoo" by Johann Grobler; "The Wild Coast" by Christian Bodeux; "Kaokoland by Bike" by Hennie Jordaan.

Should this begin to consume time and effort beyond the call of duty, the owner(s) may decide to introduce registration, separate mailing lists, or may even request payment or turn the specific Destination into a pay site.

For a list of current T4A Destinations go to the Destinations A - Z web page.

NOTE: the concept of T4A Destinations is new and therefore work-in-progress. If you have any suggestions, please contact us.
